RULES & REGULATIONS

All participants must meet the eligibility rules. The rules of Ryerson Intramurals are to ensure that play is safe and enjoyed by all participants. All regular NCAA rules apply except where noted. Please consult the Intramural Website for a full description of policies and rules governing the Intramural program.

Rules:

  1. Teams may carry a maximum of 10 players.
  2. All players must sign in at the scorers' table prior to the start of the game and be prepared to show valid Ryerson identification.
  3. A minimum of 4 players is required to start a game. Teams not ready to start 10 minutes after the scheduled starting time will be charged with a default.  More than one default results in league suspension.  Defaults are recorded as 30-0.
  4. Substitutions are permitted only with the referee's permission after a whistle.
  5. A game consists of four 10 minute quarters of running time.
  6. Teams get 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss.
  7. Two 30 second time-outs per game, per team.
  8. Each game begins with a jump ball.  The team that loses the jump ball will have possession to start the second quarter.  Possession will alternate with each subsequent jump ball and beginning of a quarter. 
  9. Games will be officiated under the NCAA/Federation rules set.
  10. Five personal fouls by any player shall result in ejection from the game.
  11. Bonus rule is in effect after 6 team fouls per half.
  12. A Technical Foul is called for objectionable conduct of a participant.  The penalty is two free throws followed by possession at centre. Game ejection is at the discretion of the referees after the first technical. If a participant receives a second technical foul, ejection from the game is automatic plus a one game suspension for the following game.
  13. An Intentional Foul is called when the player makes no attempt at playing the ball. The penalty is two free throws followed by possession at centre. Game ejection is at the referee's discretion.
  14. All officials' rulings are final. Abusive language towards the officials or other players will not be tolerated and the individual may be ejected at the official's discretion, and further suspension will be decided by the Intramural Co-ordinator and Head Convenor.
  15. Further penalty resulting from a player's conduct is at the discretion of the Code of Conduct Committee.  For details, see the Intramural Information Centre.
  16. Any participants fighting will be a) automatically ejected from the game, b) serve a one game suspension and further suspension pending by the Intramural Coordinator.

Fees:

  1. Teams are required to pay a $60.00 bond when they submit their team entry form.  This bond will be fully refunded at the end of the semester as long as the team has not defaulted or been fined for anything during the season. Team captain can come pick up the bond at the end of the semester.
  2. The team will be charged $30.00 if their team default a game and will be removed from the league after 2 defaults, on separate nights.  The defaults will be removed from the bond teams submitted at the start of the season.
  3. In the event no referee is present, at the discretion of both teams, self officiating may be done. In this case please know the rules to avoid disputes.

Standard Stuff, (eligibility, playoffs, etc.):

  1. Two divisions will exist for league and playoff play; Division A & B. The Intramural Administration reserves the right to move teams between divisions to facilitate a more equal level of play between teams.
  2. Following the regular season schedule, the champion will be declared based on a single elimination tournament.
  3. To play in playoffs you must have played in 50% of all league games.
  4. A player may not play for two teams. In the case of a dispute, the 1st game sheet that the players name appears on will count as their original team.
  5. If a player is playing for more than one team, the 2nd team using the player forfeits any wins or ties, in which the illegal player played.
  6. If a team is found to be using an ineligible player (a non RAC member), then the team is removed from the league for the remainder of the season.
  7. A team is allowed one varsity member per team.  If there is more than one varsity member the team will forfeit that game and will be warned.  If this is done for a second time the team will forfeit that game and be ejected from the league. Substitutions of varsity players will not be permitted.
  8. Players that are injured during the regular season must come see the convenor or Intramural Coordinator to be considered eligible for the playoffs.

Team Uniforms:

  1. All teams must have matching and numbered jerseys for their players. You may purchase an intramural reversible jersey at the RAC Admin. Centre for you to keep and use for your team.
  2. Pinnie sets will not be available to loan out to teams.
  3. Reversible Ryerson Intramurals jerseys are available for purchase at the RAC Admin Centre.
  4. Failure to comply with the uniform policy will result in the offending team defaulting the scheduled game.
  5. All uniforms and team names must be appropriate andreceive approval from the Intramural Co-ordinator, as well as fit all policies of Ryerson University.
