RULES & REGULATIONS

All participants must meet the eligibility rules on the back of the team registration form. The rules of Ryerson Intramurals are intended to ensure that play is safe and enjoyed by all participants. All regular CAHA rules apply except where noted. Please consult the Intramural Website for a full description of policies and rules governing the Intramural program.

Games are played Sundays, 6:00pm - 12:00am and Mondays, 9:00pm - 12:00 am at Mattamy Athletic Centre. The regular season runs from September to March.

THIS LEAGUE IS NON-CONTACT - At the discretion of the official and severity of the penalty will receive a 4 minute body checking penalty. If the officials deem it to be severe and intentional the player will receive a 4 minute body checking penalty which a player will serve and also a 10 minute misconduct penalty.

The following rules will apply to all penalties related to body contact, including but not limited to; body checking, charging, boarding and any misconduct penalties. These penalties will be tracked cumulatively by the intramural office for both the offending individual and team.

1st offence: a 4 minute penalty and 10 minute misconduct
2nd offence: a 4 minute penalty and 10 minute misconduct in the game and a one game suspension for the next scheduled game.
3rd offence: a 4 minute penalty and 10 minute misconduct in the game and a three game suspension for the next scheduled games.
Subsequent body checking penalties will result in a further 3 game suspension and a $40 team fee levied to the team, which must be paid before the start of the next game.

Rules:

  1. Games shall consist of 2 - 16 minute stopped time periods, with a 2-minute break between periods. Games must end on the hour regardless of starting time. Depending on the time the scorekeeper will run the remaining time to stay on the hour. Also if there is a 5 goal difference in the last 5 minutes the clock will run. There will be a 3-minute warm up that will start once the zamboni has left the ice and the doors are closed.
  2. Teams not ready to play 10 minutes after the scheduled start will default the game.
  3. Teams must have a minimum of 6 players (5 skaters, 1 goalie) properly dressed in order to play a league game; otherwise the game is a default. Defaults are recorded as a 3-0 win for the non offending team. Goalies are the exception and may play for the other team so teams will not default.
  4. One default results in league removal. A team that would like to return to the league after default must first pay the Intramural Office in full for the ice time as well as the officials for the game defaulted within 48hrs.
  5. Any replacement team begins with a new record.
  6. Teams get 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss.
  7. All players must wear full protective equipment to participate. It is mandatory that all players wear a CSA approved hockey helmet and a CSA approved FULL facial protector must be securely attached and not altered in any way. Neck guards are also mandatory.
  8. Minor Penalties - 2 minutes stopped time from the drop of the puck, Major Penalties - 5 minutes, Misconduct 10 minutes. Match and Game Misconduct result in being ruled off the ice. Note: Any player receiving a misconduct penalty within the last 5 minutes of a game must report to the Intramural Coordinator in RAC within 48 hours of the conclusion of the match. Failure to do so will result in a match penalty and possibly further discipline action by the Code of Conduct Committee.
  9. Any stick penalty infractions will result in an automatic 4-minute stopped time penalty. These include slashing, high sticking, cross checking, spearing and butt ending. At the officials discretion if they deem it to be severe or intent to injure an automatic 5-minute penalty is assessed and the player receives a game misconduct.
  10. Any player who is assessed three minor penalties in one game is automatically ruled off the ice for the remainder of the game. 
  11. Any player touching, bumping, tripping or pushing an official or any player threatening an official will be assessed a 5-minute major penalty and an automatic game misconduct. Further discipline is at the discretion of the Intramural Office.
  12. Referees MUST remove any player who they suspect is under the influence of alcohol or other stimulants.
  13. If a fight occurs, teams must retire to the front of their benches or to a neutral area designated by the referee. Fighting automatically results in the players' suspension from the next scheduled game (including playoffs). Further discipline action by the Intramural Office may result.
  14. Any attempt to injure will result in an automatic removal of the game and disciplinary actions by the Intramural office.
  15. Further penalty resulting from a player's conduct is at the discretion of the Code of Conduct Committee. For details, see the Intramural Information Centre.
  16. A master schedule will be available by the second week of play.
  17. All official rulings are final. Abusive language towards the officials or other players will not be tolerated and the individual may be ejected at the official's discretion.

Fees & Payment Schedule:

  1. The non-fundable team fee is two instalments of $950 (HST included) payable at the RAC Admin Centre.
  2. The first fee instalment is due at registration for the league and the second is due no later than December 1, 2014. It is preferred that all of the fees be paid as soon as possible.

Standard Stuff, (eligibility, playoffs, etc.):

  1. Team must consist of 75% full time students, (Alumni, Faculty/ Staff or Ryerson Affliate) can fill the remaining 25% without purchasing a membership.  Team has a maximum of 16 members to a team.
  2. Following the regular season schedule, the champion will be declared based on a single elimination tournament.  There will be two Divisions, Division A and Division B.
  3. A player must have played 50% of all league games to play in the playoffs.
  4. If the institution is closed due to inclement weather, games for that evening are cancelled.
  5. A player may not play for more than one team. In the case of a dispute, the 1st game sheet that the players name appears on will count as their original team. Goalies are exempted from this rule when they are used as substitute goalies for another team.
  6. If a player is playing for more than one team, the 2nd team using the illegal player shall forfeit any wins or ties in which the illegal player played.
  7. Players that are injured during the regular season must come see the convenor or Intramural   Co-ordinator at the time of injury to be considered eligible for the playoffs.

Uniforms

  1. All teams must have matching uniforms with a number for each player no later thanOctober 15th, 2015. As well by that date a complete player roster with names, One card or student numbers, phone numbers and jersey numbers must be handed to the Ice Hockey Convenor. All uniforms and team names must be appropriate and receive approval from the Intramural Coordinator, as well as fit all policies of Ryerson University.
