Ryerson University Athletics is proud to announce the addition of Andrew Pettit in the position of Recreation Manager.
Pettit comes to Ryerson after serving as Recreation Coordinator for the last 10 years at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. While at McMaster, Pettit coordinated both the intramural sports and children's camp programs, while also contributing to broader department and university-wide equity and inclusion efforts. In his recreation work, Pettit developed partnerships with ParaSport Ontario, the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) and many local community organizations to build more gender equitable and accessible programs. Pettit also led McMaster's portion of a national pilot project to create safer spaces in sport and recreation for 2SLGBTQ+ community members. He is recognized for building vibrant, service-oriented staff teams and culture, and also significantly increased camp registration and revenue while at McMaster.
"Andrew is an innovator and a champion of recreation and camp programs," said Dr. Ivan Joseph, Director of Athletics at Ryerson University. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our department, especially in the area of equity and inclusion. We are excited to have Andrew lead our team as we look to build a nationally ranked recreation program to serve the needs of all our students."
During his time at McMaster, Pettit served on a number of University wide committees including the President's Advisory Committee on Building an Inclusive Community, the IT'S TIME Ending Violence Against Women on Campus project and a campus-wide committee rewriting McMaster's Discrimination, Harassment & Sexual Harassment policy. In 2012, he was a recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Service.
Pettit holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), both from McMaster University.
